Facebook introduced a new Promotions Guideline, outlining that third-party apps are no longer a requirement for competitions. This now allows competitions to be held on the Timeline of brand pages, and use ‘likes’ as a voting mechanism.
While this offers more flexibility for competitions for brands, apps are still an option and will still have its merits (ie. collecting personal information from users etc.)
Key implications include:
- Simpler mechanic for competitions
- Shifting away from third-party apps, and greater focus on content
- Competitions directly contributing to page engagement
