Global Web Index’s recent chart of the day captures the global popularity of messaging apps among mobile internet users aged 16-64. While recent MAU (monthly active users) figures still place WhatsApp ahead of WeChat, GWI’s data from mobile and tablet users across 32 countries and places Tencent’s chat app firmly ahead by 10 percentage points. Although it is important to note that WeChat is perhaps the least global messaging app in the group with WhatsApp leaping to first place with 39% of global popularity when China is excluded from the survey. [GlobalWebIndex]
WeChat is the most popular messaging app in the world.
