The former top tech banker at Goldman Sachs just became the second-most-powerful executive at Twitter.
Twitter announced this morning that Anthony Noto, 46, has replaced Michael Gupta as chief financial officer. Gupta will assume the role of senior vice president, strategic investments. The shakeup of the top ranks comes just a month after Ali Rowghani, chief operating officer, resigned amid Twitter’s effort to spur user growth a year and a half after its IPO.

Noto had just announced his departure from Goldman Sachs in the middle of May, as part of a plan to join hedge fund Coatue Management. At Goldman he was a rainmaker who made his name catapulting the Wall Street investment bank to the top of the tech IPO league table in 2013, after trailing Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan the year prior.
Early in his career at Goldman, Noto acted in various roles, including working as an internet and media research analyst, and later, as the head of the communication, media and entertainment equity research team. Noto served as co-head of Goldman Sachs’ technology, media and telecom investment banking group from September 2011 to May 2014. But he has worked in the corporate suite before. From February 2008 to September 2010 he was chief financial officer of the National Football League.
Noto holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy and a MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
