Today Japan-based messaging app Line announced its breakdown of registered user numbers in its top countries. It reveals there are now 30 million registered Line users in Indonesia. That’s an increase of 10 million from the country-specific number for April.
Indonesia is now Line’s second biggest country outside of its native Japan.
The web giant behind line, NHN, has been pushing the app hard in Indonesia. It regularly holds mobile competitions like Lucky Chance and Lucky Price, which let users buy gadgets (and even a car) through mini games. And Line also airs advertisements on Indonesian TV and radio from time to time.

Globally, Line has 490 million registered users, the company revealed today. Indonesia has leapfrogged Thailand, which now has 27 million registered users, since the last time the Japanese firm revealed country-specific numbers. Line is competing with WhatsApp, KakaoTalk, BeeTalk, Viber, BlackBerry Messenger, and WeChat in Indonesia.
