Motorola Mobility has undergone plenty of changes since it was purchased by Google for $12.5 billion back in 2012, but the latest change might be its most prominent yet.
Today a handful of tech sites are reporting that Motorola is ditching its red button “M” Logo in favor of something much more colorful. As you can see from the image above, the company’s new logo sports a rainbow-color circle with the familiar M inside. The company also ditched its boring italicized “MOTOROLA,” and opted for an all lowercase “motorola” with a thinner font style. There’s also the added “a Google Company” tag line, too.
The new logo, which was spotted by The Verge earlier today, first appeared as Motorola Mobility’s sponsorship logo for next week’s Chicago TechWeek event. It’s worth noting that this particular logo also appears with a purple “M” button on the TechWeek event’s sponsor page, but doesn’t appear anywhere on the company’s website.
A new logo would make sense, given the new direction the company is moving under Google. Motorola Mobility new strategy is to focus on making fewer devices with innovative features. It’s new flagship smartphone Moto X will run Google Android operating system and be produced in Texas later this year.
