INSEAD entrepreneurship professor Patrick Turner passes away

Patrick Turner

Patrick Turner, affiliate professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise at INSEAD’s Singapore campus, passed away yesterday. He was 66 years old.

Turner, an INSEAD MBA graduate himself, started teaching MBA courses on entrepreneurship in 1999. One of his most popular courses was “Your First One Hundred Days”, a hands-on experience that recreated the highs and lows of leading a company through its first hundred days.

His hands-on approach in the classroom reflected his life outside of academia. He was very involved in Singapore’s startup community, as a member of the Action Community for Entrepreneurship, a government initiative from 2003, and as an advisor for local venture capital firm Upstream Ventures.

Turner’s students took to Twitter to remember their mentor:

RIP Patrick Turner (INSEAD MBA’78), Prof of Entrepreneurship, creator of ‘Your First 100 Days’ and ‘Entrepreneurial Leadership’ lectures.

Turner’s passing is a burden to bear but his teachings are a gift that many still carry with them. His message for students was to maximize their own abilities and lives. As he told Tech in Asia several years ago, “Unless you have deeply religious beliefs that lead you to believe that there is a life after this one, you have only one go at this one. Makes sense to me to try as much as you can to be happy; to do what what you really want to do.”
