Jingdong stops accepting Tenpay, rift growing with Tencent?

China’s Jingdong is the nation’s second-biggest B2C e-commerce platform, and it’s starting to look like it may not be exempt from the internet war that has seen China’s biggest web companies taking sides and drawing up battle plans. In the past week, Jingdong reportedly banned employees from using the Tencent chat app WeChat, citing security concerns and directing them to instead use the new competing app Yixin. Now, the Chinese press is reporting that Jingdong has also removed Tencent’s Tenpay from the list of third-party payment options it accepts.

Needless to say, the news has led to speculation that Jingdong and Tencent have had some sort of a falling-out. The timing could certainly be a coincidence; Jingdong still offers other third-party payment options and it’s not clear why Tenpay was removed from the roster.

Tech in Asia has contacted Jingdong for comment on this story and will update it if we hear back.
