At least 70 people have been killed and many more are missing after heavy rains caused flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir this week. The dead include nearly 50 members of a wedding party who were traveling in a bus that got washed away.
Rescue operations are being severely hampered due to incessant rain, local authorities have said, and the downpours are expected to continue for another two days. Jhelum, the state’s main river, is flowing several feet above the danger mark. The 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for second consecutive day today.
This is what some of the flooded parts of Kashmir look like right now.
