To many across Southeast Asia, Vietnam is a black box. People have no idea what’s going on inside. Some say it’s a harsh market. Many say it’s a minefield. Others are perplexed by the output of the startups, and genuinely surprised to learn about a huge company like VNG.
At the same time, for those within Vietnam, people subsist on the gossip circulating around the small Vietnamese startup community and are all too aware of the dynamics in the ecosystem. Vietnamese folks are bored of hearing about VNG by now. Especially those who’ve been in the industry for years, they know about the dramas and histories behind all the top companies like FPT, The Gioi Di Dong, VC Corp, and Vat Gia. But for foreigners, it’s very hard to penetrate the market and get a feel for what is going on.
(See: There’s more to Vietnam’s startup scene than meets the eye)
Which are the access points? Who are the key people that you need to meet? Where do you start?
Luckily for foreigners, key people in the Vietnamese ecosystem possess the answers. One such individual is Ngan Sau from Twenty.vn. She’s partnered with Triip.me, the tour crowdsourcing startup out of Ho Chi Minh city to produce a tour called “Startup Tour!!! An Adventure Into Startup World Of Vietnam”.
Ngan Sau has been in the startup ecosystem for more than half a decade. The tour she’s assembled takes you through Ho Chi Minh city’s co-working spaces, top startup offices like VNG, and venture capital firms. It’s a quick peek into Vietnam’s ecosystem.
So if you want a first look into Vietnam, check out the tour. It costs just USD$53. Already ten people have taken the tour.
Also, for your viewing pleasure, we’re reposting our mindmap of Vietnam’s ecosystem.
