If you’re a shopaholic who just so happens to be in the mood for online shopping in Indonesia this week, then there’s no better day than today.
Today is December 12, which is Indonesia’s Cyber Monday. More than 78 local ecommerce players have banded together for this long-awaited Hari Belanja Online Nasional (National Online Shopping Day aka “Harbolnas”). Companies like Lazada Indonesia, Traveloka, and Groupon Indonesia are offering awesome discounts nationwide. The teams have even gone to the extent of building a dedicated website to celebrate Harbolnas here.
This year, users can get additional discounts if they use a Telkomsel phone number, CIMB Niaga Bank account, or chat apps like Line, KakaoTalk, and WeChat. The traffic seems to be building up fast as a number of websites like fashion estore Zalora Indonesia, gadget estore Erafone, and grocery estore Sukamart have reportedly been down due to high traffic.
Last year, Zalora Indonesia, BerryBenka, and Shopdeca reported that they recorded traffic 10 times higher than usual during the previous Harbolnas. Zalora said its orders increased 10 times more than usual as a result the festive day.
In 2013, there were only about 22 participating ecommerce players, while the year before the event only had around 10. This online sale momentum is building fast in Indonesia, and it’s likely to become an even more widley-celebrated ecommerce tradition in years to come.
