How to watch “The Interview” online

Here it is, after all.

Sony has reversed course and agreed to release The Interview online, in addition to limited screenings in theaters.

Though the movie has received bad reviews, attempts by hackers to suppress the film—and Sony’s initial decision to acquiesce—have generated enormous interest in it and its controversial scene featuring the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. So if you must watch The Interview, here is how to do it.

The movie will be available in various places online starting at 1pm EST on Dec. 24. You can rent it to watch within a few days for $5.99, or buy it to watch whenever you want for $14.99. But note that the movie will only be available to viewers in the United States, at least for now.

Sony is distributing the move itself through this dedicated website, which is powered by Kernel (for the streaming part) and Stripe (for payments). You could watch in a browser on a personal computer, or try shifting the video to a television set with Chromecast or Apple TV. But if you really want to watch it on a TV, the other options are better.

YouTube

Did you know YouTube sells and rents movies? It does! You can go here to get The Interview when it’s available. YouTube also has apps for Android and iOS devices, plus Roku, Chromecast, TiVo, and a lot of televisions. Try buying the movie on the web and then logging into your account on one of those other devices.

Google Play

Google not only owns YouTube, it also has an iTunes-like competitor called Google Play. You can use Google Play on your PC, lots of Android devices, Chromecast, Roku boxes, and more. This is probably your best bet for easily getting The Interview onto a television set. Here is where to find it online.

Xbox Video

Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console is also a great device for watching video. If you own one and subscribe to Xbox Live, then you’ll be able to get The Interview there.
