Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s personal resolution for 2015 is to finish a new book every two weeks. He’s launching it on a Facebook page called “A Year of Books”, where he’s announcing the books he’ll read and inviting anyone to discuss with him.

The first book is The End of Power by Moisés Naím, which Zuckerberg says he chose because:

It’s a book that explores how the world is shifting to give individual people more power that was traditionally only held by large governments, militaries and other organizations. The trend towards giving people more power is one I believe in deeply, and I’m looking forward to reading this book and exploring this in more detail.

Announcing his goal, Zuckerberg mused on the value of books:

I’ve found reading books very intellectually fulfilling. Books allow you to fully explore a topic and immerse yourself in a deeper way than most media today. I’m looking forward to shifting more of my media diet towards reading books.

Zuckerberg says he’ll select the books he reads in 2015 with the goal of learning about different cultures, beliefs, histories, and technologies. He had asked Facebook users on Dec. 30 for ideas for his 2015 resolution, and quickly gotten 50,000 suggestions. Zuckerberg’s past New Year’s resolutions include:

  • Learning to speak Mandarin

  • Meeting one new person who doesn’t work at Facebook every day

  • Writing a thank you note each day to someone who made the world better

  • Being a vegetarian (or only eating meat if I killed the animal myself)

  • Wearing a tie every day

He has a track record of taking these resolutions seriously. In October, Zuckerberg gave a 30-minute interview in Mandarin.
