asian startups weekly list

Here’s our newest round-up of the featured startups on our site this week. If you have startup tips or story suggestions, feel free to email us or tell us about your startup on this form. Any juicy tech news tips go here. Enjoy this week’s list!

1. Blink | China

Blink, a new photo sharing and messaging app out of China, received a fresh series A investment from China’s web giant, Tencent. The photo app is very similar to Snapchat, with the ability to add some MS Paint-style graffiti, text, and an audio message on their snapshots or 16-second video.

2. Invoice2Go | Australia

Australian-based mobile invoicing company Invoice2go stunned the startup world when it raised a US$35 million in its first ever funding round. The company’s impressive numbers – such as having over an approximate US$8.7 billion in invoicing going through the app to date – had something to do with that. Check out the founder’s story here.

3. KerjaDulu | Indonesia

Launched at the start of 2014, KerjaDulu, Indonesia’s social network for job seekers and employers, announced this week that it received an angel investment of “a six-figure US dollar” amount from Budi Setiadharma, chairman of the Indonesian conglomerate PT Astra International.

4. CloudLancer | India

Founded in May 2013, CloudLancer offers web and social media marketing in India for Japanese companies. The startup has plans to launch a mobile rewards platform in India for Japanese companies. Via the platform, Indian users can earn mobile recharge credit by completing simple tasks like filling up questionnaires, downloading apps, and watching promotional movie clips.

5. AdPushUp | India

India’s AdPushUp helps users maximize and increases their ad revenue by reducing banner ad blindness. AdPushUp’s proprietary patent pending product has a machine-learning algorithm, which according to the founder, can learn and fight banner blindness. And it can easily integrate with a publisher’s current ad server or networks on its existing page layout.

6. Waygo | China

Waygo is a neat augmented reality translation app from China and it has just added support for translating Korean into English. That complements Waygo’s existing skills in Chinese-to-English and Japanese-to-English.

As with Waygo’s other languages, the Korean translation works best on signs, menus, and random text you see about your travels. You’ll still need to use a phrasebook on your travels to Japan, China, or Korea, but Waygo will help you in a way that a phrasebook cannot – by helping your eyes make sense of the text all around you.

7. Zoomcar | India

India’s Zoomcar is a car rental startup that allows customers to drive themselves. Founded in Bangalore last year with just seven vehicles, it now has over 250 cars at 40 locations across Bangalore and Pune. Like Ola and Uber, Zoomcar too rides heavily on technology. All the booking and payments happen through the web or Zoomcar’s mobile app. But it offers neighborhood-based vehicle locations to simplify pick-up and drop-off.

8. Wavoo | Indonesia

Wavoo is a dating app focused on the Indonesian market. It functions just like Tinder – swipe to the left if you’re not keen on the person, and swipe to the right if you’re interested. Matched couples can get to know each other by using the chatting feature. It also comes with two additional features.

The first feature is the “wink.” While the swipe feature lets you choose and reject people anonymously, you reveal who you are by sending winks to potential dates. The other new trick in Wavoo is its “Nearby” function which uses augmented reality tech on your camera. With it, you can see other Wavoo users according to the proximity distance you set.

9. Another Brick In The Road | India

Civic-minded startup Another Brick In The Road connects with the local charities that are its partners to take the second-hand goodies off your hands and distribute them where they’re needed. The startup is seeking to raise US$7,250 in a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise enough to cover operating costs for the first couple of years.

10. Home Triangle | India

HomeTriangle is a social marketplace that helps to finding the best person for a home improvement project. The platform lets a user input their requirements or choose from the listed service packages. When the user submits the requirements and his or her location, the site delivers a list of professionals. The resulting list contains professionals with higher positive reviews and immediate availability on top and the fresh firms at the bottom.
