Meet our Startup Asia Jakarta 2014 hackathon winners

Startup Asia Jakarta 2014 successfully wrapped up last night. While Indonesian startup iGrow was the winner of Startup Arena, we also have winners of Startup Asia Jakarta 2014’s hackathon from the 31 finalists who battled it out yesterday. Three teams and winners of sponsor awards walked away with prizes. The judges who made the final selection were Ideosource’s VP business development Andrias Ekoyuono, Adskom’s CTO Daniel Armanto, and Weekend Inc.’s CEO Richard Fang.


PayPal challenge


PayPal’s challenge for these participants was to leverage PayPal and/or Braintree APIs for payments processing in a mobile or web app. Here are the three winners:


  • 1st: Siaga Banjir +, who created an application that crowdsourced flood-related information, won a Parrot AR 2.0 Drone

  • 2nd: NEAT.A, who created an app that allows parents to monitor their children’s activities via a card with an integrated chip, won a Jumping Sumo

  • 3rd: Evone Studio, who created an app that helps citizens calculate the total value of the tax they should be paying, won a Parrot Rolling Spider

Intel challenge


The task was to build an app (not a game) based on HTML 5 using Intel XDK. Besides prizes, the winners get a chance to participate in the selection process by Intel to go to the Mobile World Congress and present their apps. Here they are:


  • 1st: Push All, who created a phone credit top-up app named Pushla, won a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2

  • 2nd: NEAT.A won an Asus Transformer Book Ultrabook

Migme challenge


Migme challenged the participants to build an application that would utilize its social network’s unique features like Migme social graphs, its posting mechanism, and Migme payment system. All participating teams get an internship opportunity at Migme office in Singapore. Here are the winners:


  • 1st: Test Case, who created an app that organizes meetings, won an electronic product voucher with cash value of US$1,000

  • 2nd: Simba, who created a music service app named Diora, won an electronic product voucher with cash value of US$500

Amazon Web Service challenge


Amazon’s task was to create an app that solves a real world problem in Indonesia and at the same time utilizes the power of the Amazon Web Services Cloud. NEAT.A was the winner of this challenge, and won a Kindle reader and US$500 in AWS credit.


Skyscanner challenge


The challenge issued by the travel-oriented search engine was to create an innovative travel site or app using Skyscanner’s Data APIs. Rimbunesia, who created an app named Vacationesia that allows users to record their vacation experiences, came away with the US$500 cash prize.


Jalan Tikus challenge


Indonesia’s app store Jalan Tikus challenged the participants to build or integrate their Android app or game with JalanTikus’ Membership and Payment Android SDK. The winner of this challenge was Silverpoint, who created a game app named Monster EVO, and won a Xiaomi Mi 4, a paid internship at Mainspring Technology, free full video review, and a highlight article on JalanTikus.com for top five apps.


TackThis challenge


TackThis’ challenge was to build an app using TackThis APIs and publish it on TackThis. And the winners are:


  • 1st: ShowUsTheCode, who created an auction app named Bidlt, won an iPad Mini with Retina Display (WiFi + Cellular, 16GB)


  • 2nd: Craterio, who created an app named Tack App that allows users to import or export their products from their online shop to marketplace sites, won an iPad Mini (WiFi + Cellular, 16GB)



Overall winners


At the end of the day, there can only be three overall champions who won a handful of cash and software prizes – and of course, trophies to go with them. Here they are:


  • 1st: Siaga Banjir + was awarded US$1,000 and the champion’s trophy

  • 2nd: NEAT.A bagged US$600 and the silver trophy

  • 3rd: Horen was awarded US$300 and the bronze trophy
