Gumi Asia will be publishing Sega Networks’ popular Chain Chronicle mobile game for North America this December 8. It will be available in Europe and Southeast Asia, among other regions, following the North American launch. Similar to its localization of Alim studio’s Brave Frontier, Gumi Asia worked on the development of Chain Chronicle’s English version.
The line defense RPG Chain Chronicle involves the player controlling heroes who battle against enemies who come towards them in one of three lines.
Chain Chronicle has been downloaded over four million times in Japan since its launch in July 2013. However, this number pales in comparison to more popular games like COLOPL’s Quiz RPG, which achieved 29 million downloads within a year of launch.

I’ve not tried Chain Chronicle before, but its heroes and monsters look very cute, and come accompanied by more photorealistic illustrations. Visually, it’s a bit reminiscent of the recently-released Fantasy Life for the 3DS. Asian gamers tend to favor cute and anime art styles over photorealistic ones, so this is likely to catch a lot of eyeballs once it goes live.
Sega Networks CEO Haruki Satomi says that the company has been looking for the right moment to bring Chain Chronicle to the Western market. Gumi Asia’s success with Brave Frontier for international players will surely be mirrored in this localized version, and I’m eagerly anticipating its release already.
