Indonesian edtech startup HarukaEdu raises series A funding from CyberAgent Ventures

HarukaEdu, an Indonesian startup focused on online education, announced a series A investment of an undisclosed amount from Japan-based CyberAgent Ventures earlier today. The company released a statement saying that the new funds will be used to recruit team members necessary for the development of HarukaEdu’s infrastructure, featured courses, and online training.


“We are targeting people who are already working and want to continue their education to obtain a degree of S1 or S2. Currently their options are limited to evening or weekend classes. Unfortunately, there are some disadvantages of those options,” says Tovan Krisdianto, co-founder of HarukaEdu. “Online courses provide flexibility where students can learn anytime and anywhere.”


“We see great potential for online education, especially in Indonesia. Based on the experience of our investment in the field of online education in China and Vietnam, we don’t doubt that the transition to online is just a matter of time for Indonesian education,” says Steven Vanada, investment manager of CyberAgent Ventures in Jakarta.

“Academic institutions in Indonesia have realized that online learning is one of the most important trends in the world of higher education. Unfortunately, only a few have the knowledge, experience, human capital, and financial resources sufficient enough to maintain the quality of online courses. Many of those who do not have good information technology infrastructure for the arrival of their course, or even websites that provide good information,” says Novistiar Rustandi, co-founder of HarukaEdu and graduate of the Jakarta Founder Institute.


In addition to providing its own online courses, HarukaEdu provides other academic institutions with IT solutions and infrastructure for implement online learning. HarukaEdu is currently working with the London School of Public Relations, STM Labora, and the Entrepreneur University of Indonesia.
