The maker of WeChat has come out with a new companion app that allows users of the messaging app to make their own animated emojis. Called MojiMe, it lets you put your face into hand-crafted WeChat stickers.
The new app from Tencent comes with the option of making a single “moji” character featuring your face, or a “buddy moji” of yourself and a friend. All of the stickers you make with MojiMe can be used with any friend within WeChat – or even on Facebook. However, to re-use the same custom sticker multiple times, you’ll need to go to the trouble of saving it to the “favorites” section of the messaging app’s sticker selection. It’s a bit fiddly.
Here are some screenshots inside MojiMe:
And this is what your WeChat custom stickers look like when you send them out:
MojiMe is out now in Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Africa, and Italy. And, of course, its native China. Presumably, these are WeChat’s key overseas markets outside mainland China, although the parent company has not yet specified how many users WeChat has in individual nations. The messaging app has a grand total of 438 monthly active users, according to Tencent’s most recent figures for the end of June.

As we explained earlier this year, there were already a few ways of making your own animated GIFs for WeChat, but this new companion app makes it easier.
Rival messaging app Line rolled out custom sticker sets in February this year, and even allows people to make money from selling them. That’s not the case with WeChat’s offerings.
MojiMe is free for iOS and Android.
