When you put together the words “hacking” and “Indonesia”, Bali might not be the first place that comes to mind. But in fact, the island of paradise plays host to many great tech talents which include entrepreneurs and developers alike. It is not only a great place for leisure, but also for launchpads to kickstart new businesses.
While Bali may not have the same funding flow or rich talent pool as its larger urban counterparts, it holds many other advantages that can’t be found anywhere else. In Bali, you will find a great environment to support your productivity and the focus needed to build your business empire.
Hubud, which claims to be Bali’s first ever coworking space, is planning to become the island’s first host for a Startup Weekend hackathon. This will be Indonesia’s third Startup Weekend, after hosting it twice in the capital city of Jakarta.

Few major hackathons are held in Bali, so Startup Weekend comes as big news. Based in the US, Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators are spread out in over 200 cities around the world. Each event has the goal of launching new startups in a mere 54 hours.
Startup Weekend will bring numerous coaches, judges, and speakers to make sure the Balinese can achieve their goals. Some of these key people include Andy Zain (managing director of Mountain SEA Ventures), Yohan Totting (founder of ThinkRooms and Hackerspace Bandung), J. Moses (CEO of Take-Two Interactive Software), Ketut Sulistyawati (founder of Somia Customer Experience), Andrea Loubier (founder of Mailbird), and Niraj Bhargava (founder of the New Energy Group).

Startup Weekend in Bali will happen from November 14th to 16th. It will begin with open mic pitches on Friday, where attendees will share their best startup ideas and try to convince participants to join their team. While on Saturday and Sunday, the assembled teams focus on validating their ideas, developing business models, and creating basic prototypes. On Sunday evening these teams will have to present a demo of their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from the experts.
